How to make a paper lantern?

Things you'll need?

• Christmas paper
• Ribbon
• Gem Brads

you can grab these from the Rasberry Shop ...

Step 1: Select a size

i like 20.5 cm x 20.5 cm but you can choose whatever size you like

trim to size

Step 2: Cut slits into the paper

fold the paper in half

cut slits into the paper approximately 1 cm apart - you only need to cut 3/4's of the way up

Step 3: Form lantern

 once you have completed cutting the slits into the paper

open up the fold and turn the paper around to form a lantern

staple the ends together

Step 4: Add ribbon handle

position the ribbon on either side of the lantern to form a handle

hold in place using a gem brad - this provides the lantern with some detail...

there it is...a paper lantern..it is a simple project and the perfect way to integrate children into helping with christmas decorations....

make an impression this Christmas

You Can with a tiny bit of help from Rasberry's christmas products and a special touch of your own creativity. Today I spent the afternoon with Mel Garner from Dragonfly Crafts setting up for Paperific. 

It brought back memories of a Paperific experience.  One year a friend and myself decided to go to Paperific - it was at the Telstra Dome.  We were like crazy little kids in a candy shop....it was like going to movie world - you don't know where to start - you want to see everything...experience it all and of course ...pick up some goodies...

We met some amazing retailers, had a heap of fun doing a variety of "make & takes" and picked up a variety of crafting stuff.  After, the show Kath & I headed to "PJ O,Briens" for dinner, drinks and some serious "post show replay" discussion.  There was so much to discuss - people, ideas, products and the hope that we could do it all over again!

rasberry angel shape template

if you are wondering how i made the template for the angels paper chain.....

here it is...

 

I used the "angels paper" from our Christmas collection.    There are 2 angel sizes available on this sheet of paper  - i cut out the large angel.

Trace the angel shape over black cardboard so that you have a strong template.  If kids are completing this project - cut out a couple of templates so each child can have their own.

Rasberry Christmas Decorations

I made these cute little Christmas Decorations for our tree using Rasberry Stars and rub ons...I have glittered the stars using Allison Ellis hot set glitter!

paper angel chains...

{create it. love it}

i love paper chains so it comes as no surprise i'm sure that i am posting my latest "angel paper chain" project - it is a fun project that kids can make ...

i used products from the Rasberry Christmas Collection and you can find them our our website

here's how to........

Step 1: Cut out a template

I used the "angels paper" from our Christmas collection.    There are 2 angel sizes available on this sheet of paper  - i cut out the large angel.

Trace the angel shape over black cardboard so that you have a strong template.  If kids are completing this project - cut out a couple of templates so each child can have their own.

 

 

 

 

Step 2: Cut out ANGELS for the paper chain

Use the template to trace shapes onto your selected paper.  I am using the Rasberry Angel Chain and Candy stripes paper designs for this project.

 

 

 

 

Step 3: Connect the angels together and embellish

Connect the angels together. I used silver brads - if you don't have any you can grab some from the Rasberry website [a pack of 100 silver brads is $5.99]

I decided to use buttons to add detail to the skirts of the angels on the chain.  This adds some interest and dimension to the paper

 

 

 

 

 

That's it...you have a paper angel chain...

giggles, chardy and a delicious issue of Notebook magazine

{noteworthy...}

it was a "barmy" gentle, lazy late afternoon...kids were giggling, chatting, playing...enjoying the freedom of being outside,

i sat...hearing the giggle of little children running around..the sizzle of snags on the bbq...sipping chardy and browing my latest issue of Notebook magazine...

it's a devine issue with summer inspiration, idea's and gorgeous food...

whilst perusing this issue i came across a little project on "Renewing old wicker furniture"

i have been looking for a chair or bench seat to place on my front verandah and i think i might give this project a go...

maybe when i am perusing the next issue - it might be on my cosy little wicker chair with chunky cushions in gorgeous fabrics...

what have i been up to the last couple of days....making paper lanterns..yes you heard right making paper lanterns...take a look

devine christmas gift tags...so easy..

i have almost completed instructions for pretty in pink project ....

in the meantime i did a similar project using RASBERRY christmas papers and embellishments

i made a similar box and gift tags to put inside...the gift tags were really easy...

 

I will put the instructions for the "pretty in pink box and gift tags project" up today and the christmas project [re above] tomorrow...
